Welcome to the Alameda Photographic Society
We invite you to explore photography through friendship, workshops, competition and learning programs. Look around, get to know our photographers, our mission, places we visit and the excitement of expression; better yet come to one of our meetings and see for yourself.
Visitors are always welcome at our meetings.
We meet semi-monthly on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at 2441 San Jose Ave. in Alameda, CA (with the exception of December and the fourth Tuesday in July). Look for the side door of the First Christian Church. It says Fellowship Hall; just come up the stairs to find our group.

The judges, by the way, will not be anyone entering the competition. Thanks go to all club members who submit their images for consideration. The Board encourages all members to submit their favorite images for the next PSA Pictorial submission, to be announced soon.

Tuesday, February 24: Program night:
Photographer Katherine Du Tiel
On winter sunrise mornings on the Menlo Park bayfront, Katherine Du Tiel was lowered in a steel cage 141 feet down a freezing cold shaft and whisked away on a train in a huge pipeline underneath the bay to document the tunnel boring machine construction activities. Hours later she would return to the office covered in mud. Du Tiel was the staff head photographer for San Francisco Public Utilities Commission from 2005-2014 and her job was to photograph the $4.6 billion Water System Improvement Program, from the Hetch Hetchy Valley of the Sierra Nevada to the faucet in homes. She photographed the repairs, replacements, and seismic upgrades of the system's deteriorating pipelines, tunnels, reservoirs, pump stations, storage tanks, and dams.
She is now the Senior Photographer for San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art. She received her MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally and is in several collections.
She spoke to us in April 2012 about her photo series "Realm of Infinite Possibilities." This time, she will discuss her work as a photographer for major construction projects undertaken by the city of San Francisco. Click here to view her website.
