Thursday, May 16, 2024  11am The Presidio of San Francisco

Depending on when you were there last, you might be in for a surprise. The Presidio has undergone a major transformation since becoming a National Park. There is enough here for several field trips, but we will start with...

WHERE: Presidio Visitor Center, 210 Lincoln Blvd, SF. Highly recommend this be your starting point whether or not you intend to meet up as a group. Visitor Center opens at 10 AM and has a 3D map of the Presidio. The Rangers there are extremely helpful and can direct you to the best photo sites. There are also free Ranger talks everyday; ask for schedule and location.

MAPS: Strongly recommend you download them to your Smartphones before leaving home. They were too large to attach to this email.

PARKING: Paid parking within designated spots; free parking for displayed disabled person placards; pay with credit card at kiosks.
For location of public parking and other important information, check:

LUNCH: Meet up at 1 PM at the food trucks. Food trucks gather in parking lot of Main Parade Lawn between 11 AM and 3 PM. You can check which ones will be there up to one week in advance at:
https://presidio.gov/explore/park-attractions/presidio-pop-up-schedule
Grab some food, bring a blanket/folding chair and meet as a group for a picnic on the lawn nearby as many of the local office workers do.
OR
If available, we can try and get a picnic table behind visitor's center.

March 7, 2024 - Fitzgerald Marine Reserve

The King Tides are back!  And, as it is with tides  - we have highs and lows.   The low tide at Moss Beach's Fitzgerald Marine Reserve happens at 2:45pm on Thursday, March 7th and is minus 0.82 ft.   Sunset on the 7th is at 6:10 pm. There will be a lot to see!  In addition to all of the sea creatures available to photograph during the low tide, a stroll through the cypress grove located on the bluff just south of the tide pools provides an entirely different environment for capturing interesting images.
