Welcome to the Alameda Photographic Society

We invite you to explore photography through friendship, workshops, competition and learning programs. Look around, get to know our photographers, our mission, places we visit and the excitement of expression; better yet come to one of our meetings and see for yourself.

Club Meetings

Alameda Photographic Society (APS) has replaced all in person meetings with Zoom meetings. Club members have expressed their enthusiasm for this new style of meeting. To help you get started please look at Getting Started with Zoom.

If you are not a member and wish to attend any of our meetings, please send an email to AlamedaPhotoSociety@gmail.com with the title WANT TO ATTEND and let us know which meeting you would like to attend.

Scavenger Photo Hunt:  The March Hunt is over. Come to the Program Night on April 27 for the results.

Stay tuned for information about the next Hunt.

Visit 2020/2021 Scavenger Hunt Results to see who won previous hunts and all of the entries that were submitted.

Hunts are designed to encourage our members to shoot images while maintaining social distancing during the time of global pandemics - hunt by yourself on your own time - don’t let COVID-19 make you a couch potato!

We hope you have a great time with the scavenger hunts! And remember.... no chickens on bicycles!

Visitors are always welcome at our meetings.

Pre-Covid 19 we met on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at 2441 San Jose Ave. in Alameda, CA (with the exception of December and the fourth Tuesday in July). We now meet online using Zoom. If you are not a member and wish to attend any of our meetings, please send an email to AlamedaPhotoSociety@gmail.com with the title WANT TO ATTEND and let us know which meeting you would like to attend.

  • Show and Tell Tuesdays are on the 1st Tuesday (not in December).
  • Competition nights are on 2nd Tuesdays (not in December).
  • Program nights are on the 4th Tuesdays (not in December).

When authorities allow group meetings and we return to the church, look for the side door of the First Christian Church. It says Fellowship Hall; just come up the stairs to find our group.

Cash for Images Category Becomes Challenge of the Month Category

We stopped collecting money and awarding a cash prize for the Cash for Images category due to logistical problems caused by not meeting in person.  So this year, the Cash for Images category is becoming the Challenge of the Month.  The winner as usual gets to pick the next category.

Calendar ( To attend any of our meetings please send an email to AlamedaPhotoSociety@gmail.com with the title WANT TO ATTEND and tell us which meeting you'd like to attend.)

 April 2021

Tuesday, April 6 at 7 PM: Show and Tell Tuesday - If you have an image that you want to talk about, tell us why you took it, what you had to do to get the image, or special processing you did to improve the image then submit it.  If you have multiple versions of the same image and you want to know what the feeling is for each image, submit them as a sequence.  Or maybe you have multiple images of the same subject, taken from different angles, and again you want to know what the feeling is for the images, submit a sequence.  ***NEW***  At the end of the night.  Stephen will present  images for the club members to discuss, not to suggest improvements, but to talk about art, the meaning of the images and how the images impact viewers.

Tuesday, April 13 at 7PM: Competition Night - The categories are: Pictorial, Monochrome, Nature, Journalism, Creative and Challenge of the Month (the topic is "ABC").   For this month's Challenge each image you submit must have at least three things in it. One must start with a "A," one with a "B," and one with "C." For example, you could have an Apple, Bagel, and Cactus floating in a pond. Have fun with this one! Remember that for the Challenge of the Month category, the images you submit must be photographed since the last competition night. You may submit up to 5 images.
